Washington Man Convicted of Sexual Abuse of a Minor

Alexander Mendoza Ortega, an 18 year old from Washington, was convicted of Sexual Abuse in the Third Degree yesterday afternoon. Mendoza Ortega was accused of performing a sex act through the use of force or against the will of a 14 year old female resident of Washington County on July 24th of 2011.

Iowa’s Agricultural Relationship to China

Iowa is building a cooperative relationship with China in terms of agriculture. On Wednesday a Chinese delegation signed 15 contracts to purchase soybeans from the United States, most of those soybeans coming from Iowa and Illinois, the two biggest producers of soybeans in the US.

Jarad Klein Talks About Property Tax Reform in Weekly Report

As previously reported by KCII, the Iowa House has passed House File 2274, which deals with property tax reform. The primary goal of this reform is to lower the collected taxes on commercial properties from 100 to 40% over time. Jarad Klein discussed the reforms in his weekly report.

Keota Budget Meeting

The City of Keota had a special council meeting on Wednesday to discuss the city’s budget for the 2012-2013 year. The managers from each department gave presentations on their expected budget needs for next year, and also gave input on what they would like to see in salary increases.
