With the warm weather the past two weeks, your energy bills have likely been lower than normal. But with cold temperatures in the forecast, we wanted to bring you some energy tips. Justin Foss with Alliant Energy gave us some tips for how to keep your energy costs down this winter.
In class 2A, the Washington Demons will send three team members to represent the Demons at the state tournament starting this Thursday. Sophomore Fletcher Green won his 40th match to clinch the championship at 106 pounds, beating out Columbus Community senior Ray Quiroz, the lone state qualifier for the Wildcats with his runner-up finish. Washington’s Mitchell Hora improved his record to 27-7 as he clinched the championship at 132 pounds. Demon senior Parker Turner finished runner-up at 145 pounds, qualifying for the state tournament as well.
In class 1A at Eddyville-Blakesburg, Sigourney-Keota senior Steven Clubb took home the championship at 220 pounds to move on to the state tournament while in Tipton, Highland had two wrestlers qualify as sophomore Travis Cole finished runner-up finish at 113 pounds, joined by senior Jess Hahn, the runner-up at 132.
It’s always said that beating the same team three times in a single season is a tough feat, and Mid-Prairie found that out Saturday night in Wellman. After trailing for most of the game, the Golden Hawks took the lead for good with 1:12 left and hung on for a 33-31 win to advance to the regional quarter-finals Tuesday.

Title: Lake Darling Soup Supper
Description: Everyone is invited to the Friends of Lake Darling soup supper at the Lake Darling Lodge on Saturday the 25th from 4:30 to 7 pm. Free will donations at the door will go towards new four seasons cabins. There will be silent auctions of homemade pies and a 6pm photo story of lake restoration progress. Title: Tip Night for Murray Family Fund
Description: Pizza Ranch in Washington will be holding a \”tip night\” on the 21st from 5-8pm. Tip night is where the servers give all of the tips earned for the night and the restaurant gives 10% of their earnings to a specific cause. The cause on Feb. 21 will be the Murray Family Fund.

The girls got the postseason underway last night and 3A Washington is the sole area girls team on the docket this Friday. This night belongs to the boys’ teams, especially in the SIESC conference as they hit the court for their annual shootout. The regular season ends tonight before class 1A and 2A start their championship runs on Monday.

Lawmakers are looking at changing the way Iowa’s Mental Health System is set up. Currently it is a county based system, with services decided by each individual county. Lawmakers are looking at a regional system, with the same core services being provided across the whole region. They are also looking at funding.
