Governor Terry Branstad has been looking at allowable growth in schools, as the Senate approved a 4% allowable growth for the 2013-2014 school year. Mid-Prairie and Keota Superintendent Mark Schneider explains that allowable growth is based on cost per student.

As previously reported, lawmakers are looking at reducing the percent of taxes collected from commercial properties from 100 to 40%. On Wednesday night, a the House Ways and Means Committee approved the bill.

The Public Works Director of Kalona, Mike Bowlin, resigned at the city council meeting on Monday. City Administrator Ryan Schlabaugh says Bowlin is looking to explore other opportunities.

Iowa Mennonite School’s FFA Program was one of six Iowa FFA chapters to receive a $1,500 grant from the Iowa Food and Family Project. These “Plant a Seed” grants are to be used to promote agricultural awareness and youth activities in their communities.

Description: A Benefit to the Murray Family will be held at Mid-Prairie High School on Friday. Donations will be taken in lieu of admission to the basketball games. A similar event was held during the basketball games on Tuesday night. The final deposit for that event was $9,307.75
