The number of road-related fatality accidents in Iowa dropped last year according to the Iowa Department of Transportation and the same is true in Washington County. There was a total of 364 fatalities last year in Iowa and according to the Washington County Safety Center, there was only one – occurring on March 30th.
As previously reported, 31 year old Joey Ann Miller of Kalona was traveling in the 1000 block of Orange Avenue near Kalona when her vehicle was found on its top submerged in water. In Washington County the numbers of fatal accidents have continued to fall.
In 2010, there were three while there were five in 2009. The decreases are caused because of advances in vehicle safety, improvements to highway design and the passage of highway safety laws.
