Washington County Hospital and Clinics (WCHC) has again generated more than 350 jobs and contributed over $16 million to the County’s economy. According to the latest study by the Iowa Hospital Association, the employees from the hospital spend more than $3 million on retail sales and also contribute almost $200,000 in state sales revenue.
Washington County Hospital and Clinics CEO Dennis Hunger says since they are “Washington County’s only hospital and one of the largest employers, we understand the impact in our communities is measured in different ways.”
The study found that Iowa hospitals directly employ over 70,000 people and create almost 66,000 jobs outside the hospital sector. The study was compiled from data submitted from hospitals on the American Hospital Association’s Annual Survey of Hospitals.
