Washington Sweeps DH at Mid-Prairie

The Demons and Golden Hawks squared off on the hard court Tuesday night and Washington came away with two wins.
Washington Girls Big Third Quarter Leads to 16th Win
The girls game featured two conference champions going head to head and while the Mid-Prairie Golden Hawks (15-5) shot the ball well early, trailing just 26-22 at the half, the Demons started the third quarter with eight-straight points from Sydney Greiner en-route to a 58-33 win at a packed gym in Wellman. Mallory McArtor scored 10 points on the night for Mid-Prairie but the Demon defense held the Golden Hawks to 11 second half points. Washington’ Regan Enfield joined Greiner in double figures with 13 points, Stephanie Fishback and Johanna Vittetoe each scored seven for the Demons who pick up their seventh straight win, ending the Golden Hawks’ run of 13-straight.
The Demons wrap up the regular season Friday at Mount Pleasant while Mid-Prairie get set for their regional opener at home against West Branch Saturday.

Washington Boys Post Comeback Win
The Demons trailed the Golden Hawks by six at the half but Washington held Mid-Prairie to 18 second-half points, poured in 32 of their own, and left Wellman with a 51-43 win.
Elliot Runciman scored seven of his nine points in the first half, leading the Hawks to a 25-19 lead at the break. Runciman was one of just three players to score for Mid-Prairie in the second half where 11 of Jaemin Powell’s game-high 17 were scored. The Demons countered as Jake Redlinger scored 10 of his team-high 13 in the second half, Dillon Redlinger had six in each half, and Colin Steele reached doulble-figures as well with 10. Washington attacked the rim much of the night, getting to the free throw line where they scored 24 of their points.
The Demons close out their conference schedule at home on Friday against #3 Mount Pleasant. Golden Hawks close out the regular season Friday against West Liberty.

The Golden Hawks took donations last night instead of admissions to raise money for the Murray family who lost their parents in a car accident over the weekend. It was announced during the games that Mid-Prairie had collected nearly $8,000 in donations for the Murray family. Friday night’s boys game will also be free admission with monetary donations being accepted for the Murray Family Fund.
