The City of Wellman had a water main break on Monday. The main was repaired Tuesday night, and water services were restored around 7:30 pm. There is still a boil order in effect, most likely until Friday. Washington County Public Health is recommending residents of Wellman boil their water for at least two minutes before using it for drinking, cooking, making ice, brushing teeth, and giving to pets. The reason the boil order is still in effect even after the main is repaired is because the water needs to be tested before it can be declared safe to drink.
The city did not discover the reason for the break while repairs were being done, but city clerk Donna Wade says it could have had something to do with the cold temperature last week.
Again, there is a boil order for water in Wellman in effect and it is expected to be lifted by Friday. KCII will keep you updated, and let you know when the boil order is lifted.
