The Iowa Department of Public Safety and the Washington County Sheriff’s Office have been making sure you have been arriving safely to your destinations this weekend. The special Traffic Enforcement Program (sTEP) which started on Thursday had law enforcement officials on the roadways making sure motorists are buckled up and are obeying all traffic laws.
Iowa State Patrol Trooper Jason Marlow says this program first started several years ago to look at high traffic weekends or weekends where more alcohol consumption may be involved. He says approximately 240 law enforcement agencies across the state participated in sTEP.
The sTEP program ends today and is part of the Governor’s Traffic Safety Bureau. They are held at different times throughout the year.
