12 of the area track coaches joined us on the Coaches Corner Saturday morning following the first week of outdoor track season and all of them were generally happy with their times this early in the season, including Washington’s Steve Roth.

“We (the coaches) were talking Thursday night after the meet that we’re really running better times now than we were last year at this time.  The warm weather gave us some great training time.”

Every track team will have a much busier week this week, starting with a big event Monday at Lone Tree where boys coach Regan Stone is preparing for several area teams.

“We have Waco coming in; we have Highland coming in, IMS, L&M and Keota.  We’re going to have seven teams there so we’re looking forward to it.”

The relay had to be pushed back to this Monday due to weather causing a few teams to squeeze three meets in this week, including back-to-back Monday and Tuesday.  Because of the pushed back date and some kids returning from a trip to Florida, Keota girls coach Dan Stout says this meet will have a different feel to it than usual.

“It’s going to be more of a practice-type setting for some of our kids because I’m sure they havn’t done a lot of running around down there at Universal Studios and things like that so it’ll be a little different for us on Monday and Tuesday.”
