The next general signup period for the Conservation Reserve Program (CRP) starts tomorrow.  The CRP is a program sponsored by the US Department of Agriculture says Bill Bartenhagen, Executive Director of the Washington County FSA Office.

He says this sign up sets aside areas of farm land to return it to a type of cover crop such as grassland, native grass or tree projects.  Bartenhagen adds the contracts can run from 10 to 15 years depending on the practice.

He notes currently in Washington County this is a little over 40,000 acres as part of the CRP program.  The general sign up starts tomorrow and runs through April 6th.  For more information, visit this link.
