The girls’ track and field state indoor championships were held yesterday at the UNI Dome in Cedar Falls and two area participants finished the indoor season strong in their respective events with top-eight finishes. Washington’s Samantha Ellingson finished seventh in the high jump with a height of 5’0”. Columbus Community’s Heaven Chandler had a nice showing in her events, finishing with the top distance in the long jump at 17’4”. Chandler also finished fourth in the 60-meter hurdles, posting a time of 9.47, and sixth in the 60-meter dash with a time of 8.03.
Chandler will be back in action Friday in the Wildcats home meet while Ellingson gets the outdoor season underway Thursday next week when the Demons travel to Mediapolis.
