The girls’ indoor track season wraps up for a couple of area schools today as Columbus Community and Highland head to UNI for the Dickinson Relays.

The indoor season does not count towards the eventual spring standings but the work the girls put in certainly translates to success on the field and gives coaches like Highland’s Dan Dickel an idea on what to expect when the outdoor season commences.

“We will have a little more depth where we can pretty much fill out most all of the events and that hasn’t been the case in the past.  There’s 18 events.  To be able to put two people in each open event and have a relay team, that gives a lot of people opportunities, and you’re bound to score some points.  I think we can compete for a lot of track championships with our depth and star power so I’m real excited about that.”

The relays take place throughout the day today and into the early evening in Cedar Falls.  The outdoor season gets underway for several girls’ teams at Columbus Community on Friday.  Don’t forget to tune in to the Jet Physical Therapy Coaches Corner Saturday morning starting at 9:00 when we visit with several area boys and girls track coaches.
