Washington County 4-H members had a course in food safety and quality recently focusing on items from medicine labels to practicing ethics.  Amy Green, Washington County 4-H/Youth Coordinator says more than 80 members attended the Food Safety and Quality Assurance Training class taught by ISU Swine Specialist Tom Miller and ISU Livestock Specialist Byron Leu on the importance of following good production practices.

She says all Washington County 4-H members are required to attend this session if they plan to show livestock that may enter the food chain.  Green adds following these good practices will lead to healthy animals which will lead to safe food for consumers.  She notes another training will be held next month at the Extension Office.
