Conference Realignment Update

The state continues to look at a way to reshuffle the conferences in eastern Iowa, affecting the Mid-Prairie Golden Hawks and the Cedar Valley, who are set to lose North Cedar to a yet-to-be-named conference involving what would be the former Big East and the current, and expected to expand, Tri-Rivers Conference.

School Bus Drivers May Need Background Checks

Lawmakers in both the House and Senate are hoping to pass a bill into law that requires schools to background check school bus drivers. The bill is in response to a Des Moines Register investigation that showed some drivers in large school districts have been charged with serious crimes in the past, including drunk driving.

Community colleges in the state have seen rising enrollment numbers for the past years, but state funding hasn’t kept up. Community colleges are increasingly relying on tuition for funding now.
