Some Employers Asking for Facebook Passwords in Interviews
Posted By News On @ 6:23 am In Today's Local News | Comments Disabled
The US Department of Justice is looking in to the legality of asking for a Facebook password in a job interview. The practice has been growing in popularity among employers, who use the password to look at Facebook accounts that are set as private. But Facebook Executives are warning employers that they could face discrimination lawsuits if they continue this practice. County Attorney Larry Brock says discrimination lawsuits are a likely possibility because viewing the profiles gives employers access to an applicants age, race, and sexual orientation. He also says the issue brings up violations of privacy. He says lawmakers haven’t looked at new laws that will need to be created to deal with legal issues involving the growing social media field. But he says someone is going to have to set those laws soon.
