Lincoln Elementary School in Washington is hoping to become part of the Safe Routes to School Project and is looking for help with that grant initiative.  Washington County Public Health Nurse Lynn Fisher says volunteers are needed to help map the routes students take to and from school.  Principal Dave Hoffman says they joined the Safe Routes to School Project as a way for children to be safe as well as healthy.

Principal Hoffman says when this idea was presented to him, school staff was excited.

Volunteers will be needed next Wednesday from 11:00 to 3:00.  The information from this route mapping will be used in the grant writing process in October.  The Safe Routes to School Project at Lincoln is similar to the same project happening in Kalona.  To find out more information, contact Washington County Public Health.
