After being postponed twice, the Washington Relays are set for today at 4:00.  The outdoor track meet held by Washington High School was washed out Thursday and Friday last week causing head coach Steve Roth to postpone the event until today.

“We’re going, we’re going.  Field events start at 4:00, running events at 4:30.  I still have 17 (of the 22) teams coming back.”

Area teams Keota, Columbus Community, and Mid-Prairie join several from around the state including Iowa City High, Cedar Rapids Prairie, Xavier, and Burlington at what some might call the unofficial beginning of the outdoor track season, but no one can doubt it is one of the longest standing track events in the state.

Steve Roth joined us on Coaches Corner Saturday morning…

“It was started back in the early ‘60s.  We’ve had some outstanding athletes that have ran here that have gone on to pro careers in track and field and football.”

Again, the meet gets underway today at 4:00 at Case Field in Washington.
