The #8 ranked IMS Boys soccer team played host at the IMS Soccer Invitational over the weekend and rolled through the competition.
IMS opened play against Southeast Iowa Superconference foe Wapello and blasted the Indians by an 8-0 score. Tommy Rhodes posted his second hat trick of the year, also scoring goals for IMS were Matt Libby, Reggie Hostetler, Peyton Thompson and Dillon Bender. The defense also stood tall for IMS holding Wapello to just three shots all game.
In the championship game IMS took a 1-0 decision in a defensive battle against the Fairfield Trojans. IMS had a goal disallowed in the first half as a tripping call against Fairfield negated a Reggie Hostetler header. The teams went into the halftime break in a 0-0 tie. The start of the second half was delayed after a disgruntled Fairfield fan came onto the field and refused to leave. When play finally resumed the IMS defense continued to stand tall anchored by goalkeeper Ben Brenneman who completed the shut out. Late in the half Matt Libby found the back of the net unassisted to give #8 IMS the 1-0 victory and the tournament championship.
