Several area athletes were on the big stage at the blue oval in Des Moines over the weekend for the 103rd running of the Drake Relays.

The Washington Demons Sam Ellingson competed in the girls high jump and Jake Redlinger also participated in the boys high jump event. The Demon boys also sent their 4x100m relay team who finished 65th in the prelims with a time of 45.50 seconds. That team consisted of Carl Sivels, Parker Turner, Colin Steele and Jake Redlinger.

The Mid-Prairie Golden Hawks competed in a pair of events in the state capital over the weekend. The Golden Hawks sent their girls 4x100m relay team of Lexi Duwa, Jessie Butters, Katie and Meghan Redlinger. The team finished in 33rd place in prelims with a time of 51.47 seconds. The Mid-Prairie boys also competed in the 4×100 event. The team of Jaemin and Canaan Powell, Ryan Hoffman and Steven Harper-Jones finished with a time of 44.31 seconds good for 30th place in the prelims.

The Columbus girls track team was also busy in Des Moines this weekend. Heaven Chandler finished 15th in the prelims of the 100 high hurdles event, she also placed 24th in the 100m dash prelims and 14th in the finals of the long jump. Chandler was also part of the 4x100m relay team from Columbus that placed 62nd in the prelims with a time of 52.39. The other Wildcats on the team were Becca Davisson, and Megan and Kelsey Pretz.
