Egg production in Iowa was up last month, but down compared to last year. Up ten percent from February, Iowa was at 1.22 billion eggs for March, down two percent from March 2011. The number of egg layers remained about the same, but again down a few percentage points from last year.

Eggs per 100 layers was up ten percent from February and about 3 percent higher than last year. The country as a whole saw egg production increase slightly from last year. Iowa remains the United States top producer of eggs by a large margin.
