The Iowa Department of Transportation has put out a message of safety in work zones this week with the message of “Don’t Barrel Through Work Zones.” Iowa State Patrol Trooper Jason Marlow says Iowa and many states are making awareness campaigns like this as a reminder to drivers to be safe while driving through construction zones. He says this awareness applies to any work zone from major highways down to construction taking place on local county roads.
Trooper Marlow says in work zones, the speed limits will be lowered at least ten miles per hour depending on the work being done. He adds fines will be doubled if a moving violation were to be given in a work zone. Trooper Marlow says obeying the proper speed limits is essential to keep not only drivers safe but the workers safe as well.
