Downtown Kalona is attracting visitors with their quilts.

But what sets these quilts apart from the rest is the fact that their made of brick.  The 42 different patterns on Kalona’s sidewalks were all made available through donation. The plaques next to them indicate who sponsored the quilt and why they sponsored it.

According to Norma Yoder each quilt piece is made of a separate brick, so if one were to crack all they have to do is replace the damaged one.  For those interested in a tour, all of the sidewalk quilts are pictured in a brochure available at the Chamber of Commerce and local businesses.
