The Mid-Prairie Golden Hawks and Washington Demons squared off in Wellman for an instant classic girls soccer match Friday.

Mid-Prairie edged Washington by a 3-2 score following penalty kicks. Mid-Prairie opened up the scoring in the first five minutes as Ali Riggan found the back of the net with an assist from Sofia Chmaruk. Just seven minutes later it was Riggan again making it 2-0 Golden Hawks with a spectacular shot from 18 yards out. The second half belonged to the Demons as Washington made a furious rally to send it to overtime behind a pair of goals. No one could dent the score board in either of the overtimes but Mid-Prairie took the match in penalty kicks as Kira Kerkove, Emma Lappe and Bailie Harris all hit penalty kicks, with Harris driving home the match winner. Mid-Prairie is now 5-3 and will match up with West Liberty tonight in Wellman. Washington is now 3-5 and will be at Keokuk Thursday.
