Residents of Washington County had a chance to help stop prescription drug abuse over the weekend.  The Washington County SAFE Coalition worked with Iowa Wesleyan Student Nurses, the Drug Enforcement Agency as well as law enforcement to try and stop pill abuse and theft of expired and unused medicines.

Iowa Wesleyan Nursing Student Glenda Sulentich says there was a great showing at the event and people were there at the start of the day.

She says they received many over-the-counter and prescription drugs as well as allergy medicines.  Last year over 188 tons of drugs at over 5300 locations operated by the DEA were turned in.  Sulentich says the service was free and anonymous with no questions asked.
