For the first time in many years, the number of Iowans registering as Republicans is higher than Democrats.  The same is true for here in Washington County.  According to Auditor Dan Widmer, out of the more than 14,000 voters, almost 5600 of them have chosen to be a Republican compared to almost 3300 listed as Democrat.  Washington County Republican Party co-chair Tricia Lipski shares why.

Lipski adds the caucuses in January could also account for the increase because of the contested Republican race.

Currently, there are 16 who have selected another party and a little over 5400 are signed up as not having any party affiliation.  Across the state, there is nearly 612,000 Republicans, almost 4000 more than Democrats.
