Recently residents of Riverside attended a work session regarding a proposal for a community center building for the City. Riverside Mayor Bill Poch said that this is a project that has been talked about irregularly over the last twenty years but has become an item of focus for the current group of council members. Discussion at the work session revolved around the types of services residents would like to see housed in a new facility.

Poch says the next step in the process is for assigned committee’s from Riverside to take trips to various eastern Iowa cities for tours of their community centers to gather information and ideas. The city will also be partnering with a consulting and engineering firm to put together a public survey in order to use public opinion to guide the project.

Poch says the survey will be used to gather information on what features and services citizens want in the facility and also a potential location. No timetable has been put together for construction or groundbreaking at this time.
