Several area soccer teams were on the pitch last night with Mid-Prairie, Highland, and IMS bringing home shutout victories.
IMS improved to 3-0 and 2-0 in conference play with a 1-0 win over the 4th ranked team in the preseason polls, Holy Trinity. Goalie Ben Brenneman recorded 11 saves for the game, keeping the it scoreless in the first half. IMS took advantage of a Holy Trinity mistake when Enrique Sanchez stepped in front of a goal kick and beat his defender before burying a shot in the far corner to make it 1-0. IMS hit the crossbar twice in the second half and kept the Crusaders at bay to register their second shutout of the season. IMS will look to move to 4-0 when they face Burlington Notre Dame on Tuesday next week.
The Highland co-ed team continued their solid start this season last night with a 1-0 win at home on senior night against Burlington Notre Dame. The Huskies improved their season record to 3-1 with their final home game of the season as the school begins construction of a new track. The final eight games of the season will be on the road starting with Danville Thursday night.
In girls’ soccer action, physical play is never a surprise when rivals Washington and Mid-Prairie square off, and last night was no different. The Golden Hawk girls, fresh off their 10-0 season-opening win over West Liberty, continued their dominant play, getting four goals from Katie Redlinger en-route to a 7-0 win as the defense continued its stellar play in front of sophomore keeper Bailie Harris who posted just three saves. Mid-Prairie improves to 2-0 on the young season and will host Columbus Community on Friday.
