The Columbus boy’s golf team took home their regional title on Friday winning with a score of 333 strokes. Mid-Prairie was sixth with a team score of 362. Columbus head coach Tony Simmons said his teams strength was what led them to the win.

“One of the strengths with the team this year has been the teams balance,” Simmons said. “We’ve had several different guys been our medalists, and we’ve had a seventh guy score for us this year. So the fact that we had familiarity with the course and that we played a very balanced attack was good for us.”

Balance worked for Columbus as they had three players shoot 83 all tying for second, while their fourth man came in fifth with an 84 and their fifth man was 11th with an 85.

Columbus will travel to Geneva Country club in Muscatine for districts next to play for a chance at the state meet against seven other schools.
