The Washington girls golf team will see some bonus golf ahead of them as they finished second at the district meet. The winner of the meet was Williamsburg with 375 with the Demons just one stroke behind with a 376. Head coach Len Kull says there were three teams trying to get that those spots, but it was Mt. Pleasant who was left out looking in.

Kull also said his team could have won the meet, but they were not as calm as they usually are.

“I think that was an important thing yesterday, I don’t think we were quite as calm and worried about ourselves as we needed to be,” Kull said. “That is going to be something that we need to do, and how to do that I guess we’re going to have to think that through and talk it over as a group.”

Abby Threlkeld was the Demons top scorer, tying for the medalist in the meet with an 83. The Demons will go on to the Regional meet, where they will see Williamsburg again, and also Grinnell and Centerville. Grinnell posted a 330 at their district meet which was at Grinnell. Kull said the experience from the quadrangular at Williamsburg will help with playing against Grinnell and Williamsburg.

“We found that course to be set up pretty well for us, and we’ll have to be relying on all of our skills that we’ve worked on for the year and see if we can qualify for the state tournament,” Kull said.

The Demons will play at the Regional meet at Williamsburg next Monday.
