An Iowa resident came to the Washington Pizza Ranch Monday night to talk about their experience with cancer and a unique Relay for Life event.  Connie Duinink from Knoxville met with team captains for this year’s Relay for Life and shared how she was able to take part in a special Relay for Life event.  She talked about a Relay that was held in Mt. Kilimanjaro.

Duinink says she was motivated to take this trip because of family and friends who had cancer as well as she felt it was time to share her battle with cancer herself.  She says 40 people were in the group and 37 made it to the top to celebrate an actual Relay for Life event.

The organization “Above and Beyond Cancer” sponsored this trip founded by Dr. Richard Deming who treats cancer patients in Des Moines.  Duinink says she would take another trip like this in the future as a caregiver and encourages others to take a trip like this if they have the opportunity.
