Low class sizes at an area elementary school has resulted in the consolidation of a its 1st and 2nd grade. Washington Township Elementary will be combining 1st and 2nd grade, but only for half of the day. According to Mid-Prairie Superintendent Mark Schneider, the half day will include core subjects Science, Health and Social studies. Specialty classes like Physical Education, Art, and Music will be combined as well. Classes including Math and Reading will be kept separate.
As of now there are 12 students enrolled in first grade and 14 in the second grade. The measure was passed by the Board of Education on a 5-2 vote at last week’s meeting.
