The No. 13 Mid-Prairie girls will take on No. 11 Solon tonight in a battle of ranked teams. . Mid-Prairie will go to Solon, but that is something the Golden Hawks have found success with as the only three games they have lost were at home. Solon did lose a game against Center Point-Urbana another highly ranked team.

Mid-Prairie has not loss since April, and has only given up five goals in as many games since. The Golden Hawks will look for the Redlinger twins to help with the scoring as they have 17 goals combined. Harris said that the real strategy against Solon though is to outlast them,

“We put our biggest focus on the conditioning, so even in the hot weather they can keep going at that top level that they need to,” Harris said. “Because against a team like Solon they’re going to need to.”

Solon will put up some stiff defense with their sophomore goal tender Mikaela Lighty who has only given up 9 goals on 27 shots. Mid-Prairie defense will also need to keep an eye on Alison McKinnie as she leads the state with 38 goals on the season. Harris knows how big of a game this is, and how long the rivalry goes back.

“It is going to be a good match, it is going to be a phenomenal match,” Harris said. “It’s going to be battling on defense, the defense is going to lock it down, theirs does too. They’ve got some pretty fast girls on their team and they come back and help out the defense. This is something that goes way back Mid-Prairie and Solon, and it makes it good for the sport, I think we’re going to have a good game here.”

The 8-3 Golden Hawks will take on the 12-2 Spartans tonight at 4:30.
