The process of canonizing Pope John Paul II is still continuing one year later and a local Priest is sharing his thoughts. Father Troy Richmond from St. James Catholic Church in Washington says the canonization process of making Pope John Paul II a saint first started shortly after his death in 2005 by Pope Benedict and the Bishops.
He adds one year ago today there was a special service to commemorate the beatification of the late Pontiff. Father Richmond notes that one year later they are waiting for one last miracle that needs to happen before Blessed John Paul II can be fully canonized as a saint.
He says once a special team of doctors, nurses and scientists from the Vatican verify this miracle, the process will move forward with the Pope’s blessing toward canonization.
Father Richmond says this process could take many years but notes when the miracle has been verified the final process will happen fast because of Pope Benedict XVI being a good friend of Blessed John Paul. Father Richmond says when the process is complete the new name will be Saint John Paul the Great.
