Canning season will be here soon and the Washington County Extension is offering testing of dial gauge pressure canners next month to help those who like to can get started.  Nancy Adrian with the Washington County Extension says pressure canners with a dial-type pressure gauge need to be tested each year to make sure they are still accurate.  She says for those who have dial-gauge canners, need to only bring the canner lid to be tested.

The pressure gauge and all vents and openings in the lid will be checked for proper functioning.  Adrian adds that you don’t need to test weighted or rocker-type pressure regulators because they cannot be adjusted and will usually remain accurate.

The testing will take place on Monday morning June 4th and June 18th from 8:00 to 10:00.  Adrian says lids may be dropped off at the Extension Office before the testing dates and if you can’t make it to the testing times, an appointment can be set up for a $5 fee.
