A Social Host Ordinance recently went into effect for the City of Sigourney. The ordinance that took effect on the 25th of April is one of many across the state and nation giving a fine to anyone who hosts or allows underage drinking or the use of other controlled substances to occur on their property.

For a first offense, violators will be subject to a civil penalty of $200 for an offense involving three to five people or $500 involving six or more people.  Second and third offenses increase to $750 and $1,000, respectively, regardless of the size of the party.

The ordinance was voted for during the April 18th meeting. The ordinance was a combined effort of the City of Sigourney, Sigourney Police Department, KC STAAR and the YSAP coalitions.
