The Mid-prairie girls golf team took third at the Cedar Valley conference meet last night. The winner of the meet was Wilton with 415 strokes, just one stroke ahead of second place Iowa City Regina. Mid-Prairie was third in the meet with 420 points. Head coach Tracy McArtor says his team struggled a little out of the gate, but was happy with how his team came back after the turn.

“Maddie Gent and Courtney Cayton both shaved 10 strokes off their front nine scores on the back nine,” McArtor said. “We were about fifth spot team wise at the turn, and then we came in third, and I was really happy about that.”

Gent and Cayton didn’t just impress McArtor though, as they were both first team all conference shooting 100 and 102 respectively. McArtor says that Gent could have had a better start, but she had to skip her warm up after getting to the meet late from AP tests.

“I felt kind of bad for her,” McArtor said. “She struggled a little bit on the first couple of holes, but then ended up settling in.”

The Golden Hawks are in action next at the regional meet on Monday in Kalona.
