WMU had an exciting last day of the state track and field meet in ushering in a state champion. . Cassie Kingery took home the gold in the 100 meter hurdles with a time of 15.26. Kingery was also a part of the fourth place 4×100 meter shuttle hurdle team. Head coach Allyson McCarty said Kingery was not very happy with her shuttle, but was excited for the 100 hurdles.
“She knew going into those 100 hurdles that she needed to regain her focus and she needed to run a clean race,” McCarty said. “She hit a hurdle in the shuttle and knew that she needed to get out of the blocks better in the 100 hurdles, and just run a clean race to get what she was after.
Kingery is only a junior, and will have another shot at State and Drake next year. Also the entire shuttle hurdle team is coming back from this year, which means fourth place may not be enough.
“Come next year who know what she’s capable of, and in the shuttle the scary thing is there are two other girls who could factor into that equation,” McCarty said.
