A woman from Altoona has been convicted of operating while intoxicated by a Washington County Jury.  According to Assistant Washington County Attorney Shawn Showers, 26 year old Julie Anne Bump of Altoona was accused of operating a motor vehicle around 2:10 am on October 2, 2011 while she was either under the influence of alcohol or had a blood alcohol in excess of the legal limit of .08.

After being stopped for another offense by a Washington County Sheriff’s Deputy for a non-functioning license plate light, the Sheriff’s Deputy observed an open 12-pack of beer in the vehicle and smelled the odor of alcohol coming from the vehicle.  The Deputy administered three field sobriety tests in which Bump did not pass.

She was placed under arrest and her blood alcohol content of .09 after a breath sample was taken at 2:56am.  Earlier this week, the jury of eight women and four men gave a unanimous verdict of Operating While Intoxicated – First Offense against Bump.

Those assisting in the investigation on this case were the Washington County Attorney’s Office, Washington County Sheriff’s Office and the Iowa Division of Criminal Investigation Laboratory in Ankeny.
