With the temperatures forecasted to be hot later this week, energy costs can rise and there are tips available to prevent them from getting too high.  Justin Foss with Alliant Energy says using ceiling fans properly is one way to save energy.  He says the fans will cool people in the room, but not the room itself.

Foss says to set your thermostat a little higher during the day and dropping it when you return home will increase the cost savings.  He notes to keep outdoor air conditioning units free from shrubs and fencing to help them run more efficiently.

Foss adds putting in additional insulation will help to keep the cool air inside as well.  Opening the windows at night to draw in cooler air and shutting them in the mornings will help to keep the temperature down during the day.  For more energy saving tips during the summer, look at Alliant Energy’s website.
