The Demon baseball team will host Danville tonight in a doubleheader.

The Demons are coming off their longest winning streak of five games going into last week. Washington’s stats date back to after Williamsburg when the Demons were hitting .320 and had an on base percentage of .426.

Their pitching staff tonight will be different and will feature many different pitchers according to head coach Nathan Miller.

“We’ve got what I call ‘Johnny Whole Staff’ going on tonight,” Miller said. “We’ve got a bunch of different guys who are going to throw, we’re going to watch the number of pitches. Austin Witt is going to get his first varsity start in the first game, Jacob Green will get the start in the second game, and then we have several guys who need some work.”

Danville is 7-12 on the season and hitting .222 with just a .366 on base percentage. Their pitching staff has combined to throw and ERA of 6.59 and opponents are hitting .250 off of them.

Miller says they are a young team that the Demons can’t take for granted, but that pitching and defense are the big keys to the game.

Miller also said he is happy about the play of his team, and the momentum that this game could help them pick up.

“My thing is that we are playing well. There might be a game or two where we are playing well but the scoreboard doesn’t reflect on how we played that day.” Miller said. “The thing I am excited about though is that our team is playing well, if we can put together two games today and put together two wins we’re going to continue to build momentum toward that Mt. Pleasant game tomorrow.”
