Demon Baseball splits with Keokuk

The Washington Demon Baseball team split a doubleheader last night with Keokuk. The Demons beat the Chiefs 16-1 in game one in four innings, but struggled mid-game again and dropped game two 12-7.
Colin Steele was on the mound for the Demons, and struggled with control early releasing all of his pitches early allowing the bases to get loaded and the Chiefs to get a four run inning.
The Demons were not phased though as they fought back at their at-bat and scored a run. The Demons held Keokuk scoreless for the second third and fourth inning with two 1-2-3 innings while scoring three in the second to die it up 4-4 up until the fifth inning.
An error turned a double for Bryce Rose of Keokuk into a triple in the first at bat of the inning. Steele tried to shut the door by striking out the next batter, but then the hits and walks started coming in. The Chiefs were walked three times and scored six in the fifth.
The Demons scored one in the fifth and two in the sixth, including Jake Redlinger’s drive to right field that got him a two run inside the park home run.
It was not enough though, as the Demons fell, and once again have over five errors in the game. Head coach Nathan Miller said his team has just got to get back to playing Demon baseball.
“We just need to go back to business tomorrow, and I told the boys we have a long season, we can’t hang out hat now, eight games in,” Miller said. “We’re 1-1 in the conference, and our focus is getting better every day, getting ready and improving up to that post season.”
The Demons are now 4-4 overall, 1-1 in the Southeast Conference, and will play at Veteran’s Memorial Stadium in Cedar Rapids on Wednesday against Highland.
