A non-profit service offering World War II Veterans a chance to visit Washington, DC is providing a first of its kind trip in September for Washington Vets. Nancy Craig with Eastern Iowa Honor Flight says they are looking for applications from area veterans who would like to go on the flight in September. She says guardians are also needed for the flight.
Craig adds sponsorships and gifts are needed as well to help fund the trip. Currently, the Washington County Riverboat Foundation is a primary sponsor for the flight.
She says after leaving early in the morning for DC, the day will consist of visiting different monuments, the changing of the Guard at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier along with visiting with elected officials.
Any area World War II vets wishing to go on the trip have until the end of July to sign up through the Washington County Veteran’s Affairs Office.
