A big piece of the Cedar Valley Conference softball championship puzzle could be decided tonight as #4 in class 3A Mid-Prairie hosts #2 in 2A Durant. The Wildcats are currently in the driver’s seat with a 6-0 conference mark, Mid-Prairie stands in third place at 5-2. A Mid-Prairie win would throw the conference race into more uncertainty. Durant has won the lone meeting between the two schools this year, a 1-0 victory on Memorial Day that saw Durant score a run in the first inning that all conference pitcher Paige Compton made stand up by tossing a five hit complete game shut out. The Wildcats are 19-2, winners of their last five in a row entering play. Mid-Prairie is fresh off of a big weekend at the Jack North tournament in Des Moines that saw the Golden Hawks take down Wilton, Moravia and knock off class 5A Iowa City, City High by a 12-0 score. The Golden Hawks have also won their last five straight. Tune in for pregame on KCIIradio.com at 7:15 and first pitch at 7:30. The one to count on for today’s local sports coverage is AM and FM KCII.
