Canning season will be here soon and the Washington County Extension is offering one last chance at the testing of dial gauge pressure canners Monday to help those who like to can get started.  Nancy Adrian with the Washington County Extension says pressure canners with a dial-type pressure gauge need to be tested each year to make sure they are still accurate.  She says only the canner lid needs to be tested for those who have dial-gauge canners.

The pressure gauge and all vents and openings in the lid will be checked for proper functioning.  Adrian adds that you don’t need to test weighted or rocker-type pressure regulators because they cannot be adjusted and will usually remain accurate.

The testing will take place on Monday morning from 8:00 to 10:00.  Adrian says if you can’t make it to the testing time, an appointment can be set up for a $5 fee.  For more information contact the Washington County Extension.
