Several Washington County 4-H members attended the State Livestock Judging competition in Ames recently and earned high marks at the event.  Amy Green, 4‑H/Youth Coordinator says 13 youth took part after attending workouts in various farms in the county getting ready for this event.  She says during the competition, the youth analyze four animals of each species in each class and rank them from best to worst.

The Washington Senior Team #1 earned first overall team in the state and will represent Iowa at the National Contest in Louisville, Kentucky this fall.  Washington’s Junior Team also earned first overall team.  Other awards received by both teams were:

Senior team – second place in the Sheep division, third place in Beef Division and second place in oral reasons. Macy Marek was 3rd overall, Sarah Greiner – 5th and Lexi Marek – 6th.   Senior Team #2 judges were Emma Stout, Jordan Stout, Ryan Chalupa and McKenna Brinning.

Junior team – Logan Sieren earned first overall individual as well as 1st in placings and 2nd in questions.  Morgan Brinning earned 3rd overall as well as 2nd in placings.  Erin Chalupa earned 4th overall as well as 3rd in placings.  Shay Becker eared 9th overall.   This team also was the Top Placings Team and 2nd in questions.
