The opening ceremony for The Wall That Heals held last night at the All Veteran’s Memorial drew a large crowd.  The American Legion Riders Post 29 conducted the ceremony with the raising of the flag, along with a Rifle Salute and the playing of Taps.

Members also read the names of eastern Iowans listed on the Wall followed by the playing of a bell after each name was read.

Volunteers standing guard tell KCII news they estimate over 200 people attended last night’s ceremony and more than 900 have visited so far.  The Wall That Heals will be open for viewing 24 hours a day until Sunday afternoon at 2:00 when a closing ceremony will be held.
