The Sky Factory will be flipping the switch this week to become the first net-zero solar powered business in Iowa. Sondra Ward with the Fairfield based company explains this is something they’ve wanted to do before they got into their energy efficient building in 2008. The solar panels designed and installed by Ideal Energy of Fairfield will generate 104% of their energy needs and is the largest installation of its kind in the state.

Starting at 11 am tours of the Sky Factory and the solar array will be given. At 11:30 there will be presentations given by founder Bill Witherspoon, Mayor Ed Malloy and Ideal Energy owners Troy VanBeek and Amy Greenfield. The company that creates virtual skylights and windows for hospitals around the world will turn the solar panels on at 11:50.

According to Sondra Ward parents are encouraged to bring their children out to experience the event and the tours.
