WACO school district has gotten approval from its Board to pursue a four day school week.
In an attempt to cut costs a committee was formed in 2011 to look at the benefits and downfalls of a shortened week. Superintendent Pat Coen shares that the committee found that the educational benefits outweigh the financial.
With the Board of Educations ok Coen and the chair of the committee can now go to Des Moines to apply for the four day school week. Something Coen says they’ll do in August or September.
If they receive approval from the state, the four day week would take effect during the 2013-2014 school year.
