Even though the winter season is several months away, Washington County Secondary Roads is ready to handle the challenge of keeping the roads clear.  Washington County Maintenance Superintendent JP Van Sickle says they have nearly restocked their salt supply from last winter.  He says overall, they used about 800 to 1000 tons of salt last year because of the mild weather.

Van Sickle says each year they start with between 3000 and 4000 tons in their storage facility which is about a two year supply.  Assistant County Engineer Jake Hotchkiss says buying the salt now saves the county money in the long run because they don’t have to buy it after a major winter storm event.
