The three inches of rain we received this past weekend helped to a certain degree for fields short on moisture.

According to the USDA’s Crop and Weather report 52 percent of topsoil in the south east region of the state has adequate moisture, compared to 27 percent the week prior.

More rain is still needed though. Over 60 percent of subsoil in this portion of Iowa is short or very short on water. The lack of rain hasn’t dramatically affected crops yet, with 92 percent of corn and 90 percent of soybeans still in fair or better condition.
